Part of the
On invitation of Lynda Roberts from
Project: Directed, curated and created by Lynda Roberts

“The ‘Vox Populi’ project originates from the desire to create a non-object based artwork where the content is fleeting and one which creates a platform for others to participate. The proposed artwork, ‘Vox Populi’ is a narrow cast radio station (Low range - just within the zone of City Square), situated inside one of the disused Melbourne City Council Tour stands which will act as a social platform to discuss people’s ideas/fears/hopes about the future.
The project will conduct Vox Populi interviews (a Latin phrase meaning ‘voice of the people’) in the square, as well as making the stand a hub to interview ‘experts’ or opinion leaders using a mixing desk and a microphone.
Each week a different theme, approach or question will lead the intervention. This could be posted on the outside of the cylinder along with transcripts and/or excerpts from the previous weeks interviews.
Broadcasting: The aim is to create a field of moded radio speakers in the grass &/or on existing poles opposite the cylinder and around the square. People will also be able to ‘tune-in’ to the broadcast within the City Square zone. The interviews could be dispersed with a range of sounds, collected from field recordings of natural, industrial and urban environments.”
